The final Blackburn Buccaneer display and disbandment of No. 208 Squadron on Buccaneers at RAF Lossiemouth occurred on 26 March 1994, marking the end of 25 years of RAF service.
The event featured a spectacular nine-ship formation, with specially painted “multi-squadron” aircraft, a series of airfield attacks, and a final flypast after which the aircraft taxied in through the crowds, turned into line, folding wings on the leader’s command, and then sixteen Spey engines wound down in unison.
The Last Turnaround shows the care and attention the aircraft were given by the groundcrew to prepare them for this last, special, emotional event.
I was part of the press party, allowed to go behind the scenes and took many reference images, on which this drawing is based.
