In 1998 the UK had a very special visitor: legendary Captain Frank Lang, accompanied on the flight deck by first officer Vern Raburn (the aircraft’s owner) brought their MATS Constellation across the Atlantic. A mate asked if I’d like to come over to Woodford, as he was going to do some photography with the Connie. Was I interested?!
At the airfield, we met the crew and were privileged to get aboard. She was in immaculate condition and so impressive. A thrill to see her start up at very close quarters and to see her fly. With more than plenty of reference images this is the resulting drawing. Another drawing & print was used for official merchandise – such an honour!
